POSITION: Network Engineer

telMAX provides telecommunications services in the GTA, focused on the Regions of Durham and York. Our mission is to provide homes and businesses with exceptionally reliable, fast, secure, and affordable fibre Internet, TV and home phone services.

Based out of Stouffville, ON. Full time in-person preferred, hybrid remote available for the right candidate. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, telMAX is looking to fill a critical role supplementing its Engineering team as we grow and expand into new areas. This unique opportunity should appeal to someone eager to learn, who understands more than the basics, looking for opportunities not available in a larger company.

Must Haves:

• Experience working in a Service Provider environment
• Strong enough understanding of Linux/Unix to use it as your primary OS and to manage multiple servers running various flavours such as CentOS, Debian, FreeBSD
• Strong enough understanding of networking to understand and work to improve our current network topology and practices
• The automation “itch”, ie a desire to let computers do what they are good at
• Communication clarity especially in written form. Ability to take good notes and provide clear direction.
• Willingness to provide 24/7 support on a rotating basis
• Valid driver’s license

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with Juniper networking equipment such as QFX, SRX, MX
• Experience with GPON/XGS-PON in any form, including a conceptual understanding of the technology
• Experience with testing residential gateways (RG)
• Practical understanding of Wi-Fi and RF including antenna radiation patterns, absorption, interference, modulation
• Experience with automation in any language, with special consideration given to Golang
• Experience handling optical fibre in any form, including an ability to describe how fibre is used to provide internet services
• A Cybersecurity mindset

• Experience with monitoring systems or responding to critical off-hours events

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
